Over $100 Million in FEMA Grants Approved for Pennsylvanians

Over $100 million in federal funds have just been provided by FEMA for homeowners and residents affected by Hurricane Ida. These FEMA grants approved for Pennsylvanians include $74.7 million for housing assistance as well as $25.6 million for other assistance needs. These funds are available to people living in Bedford, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, and York counties, and can be used to meet basic needs and supplement disaster recovery efforts.

“Assistance from FEMA can help individuals and households affected by a disaster take care of necessary expenses and serious needs that cannot be met through insurance or other forms of assistance,” said MaryAnn Tierney, FEMA Region 3’s Regional Administrator.

Virginia mortgage programs may be able to save you hundreds every month. A new 2024 mortgage may be able to give relief to homeowners. These are not the only funds provided so far.  The U.S. Small Business Administration has provided more than $47 million in loans to 1,028 households and 73 businesses. The National Flood Insurance Program also paid out $80.2 million to 1,465 claimants.

“The public assistance declaration is a vital resource for our communities to seek relief from the staggering costs associated with rebuilding roads, bridges, and other public property,” Gov. Tom Wolf said in a news release in October.

Through the Federal Emergency Management Association’s Public Assistance program, eligible applicants can be reimbursed up to 75% of the costs incurred for specific categories of assistance provided during the response to and recovery.

A household could get up to $36,000.00 in housing-related assistance and up to $36,000.00 for personal property. The average household in Pennsylvania has received $3,600.00 for housing assistance and $1,000.00 in other assistance after Ida. There are no income limits on the program. The deadline for Pennsylvania residents to apply for help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was Jan. 10, 2022.
