Residents of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania now have the opportunity to apply for a new state program that provides funding of up to $50,000 for home repairs. The Whole-Home Repairs Program, administered by the nonprofit organization Action Housing, has officially launched, offering assistance to eligible homeowners in need.
To qualify for the program, applicants must own and reside in a home located in Allegheny County. The home should exhibit significant habitability issues, such as unsafe wiring or a damaged roof. Additionally, the household income should not exceed 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which is approximately $80,000 for a family of four.
Given funding constraints, it is important to note that not all applicants will receive assistance. Action Housing will prioritize homes with the most pressing habitability issues, as well as prioritize making accessibility modifications to accommodate individuals with disabilities who wish to remain in their homes.
The Whole-Home Repairs Program received bipartisan support in Harrisburg and was included in the state budget for the first time last year, with a total allocation of $125 million. Advocates for the program are hopeful that it will be permanently included in future budgets, ensuring ongoing support for homeowners in need.
