$1200 Stimulus Checks: Are They on the Government’s Agenda?
From 2020, Americans have received various government stimulus, including loans, rebates, and checks. Although federal stimulus ended in 2021, some states still offer programs in the Summer of 2023. Here are the states issuing tax rebates.
Idaho introduced two stimulus programs in 2022. One offered a $75 tax rebate per family member or 12% of household tax liability based on 2020 returns. The other, named the “Special Session Rebate,” offered $600 for joint filers or 10% of household tax liability. Some late payments are still being processed.
Illinois offered two stimulus payments in 2022 that continue into Summer 2023. The individual income tax rebate and property tax rebates could total $700. With over six million payments to be made, distribution will take a few months. Income tax rebate eligibility is based on 2021 AGIs below specific amounts, while the property tax rebate requires payment of Illinois state property taxes on the 2021 return.
The Maine Winter Energy Relief Payment required residents to file their 2021 state tax returns by October 31, 2022. Eligible non-dependents could receive $450 or $900 for married couples. Payments began in mid-January 2023. Those who haven’t received their payment can contact the state tax assessor before June 30 to confirm their eligibility.
The Massachusetts stimulus tax refund is almost over. Eligible residents were entitled to a 14.0312% refund of their 2021 state income tax. Payments started on November 1, 2022. Late filers have until September 15, 2023, to submit their returns.
Montana is the only state with new tax rebates planned for the second half of 2023. Residents may qualify for income tax and property tax rebates. Income tax rebates will be disbursed from July to December 2023. To claim the property tax rebate, residents must apply online or via mail between August 15 and October 1, 2023.
Nuevo Mexico is offering two rebates in 2023. The first is for tax return filers, and the second is for residents who aren’t required to file. The amounts are $1,000 for joint filers and $500 for single filers. These rebates are expected to be paid in mid-June and July 2023, respectively.
