Breaking: MT Property Tax Rebate Deadline Extended to Monday

Helena, Mont. – In a move aimed at enhancing customer service, the Montana Department of Revenue has generously extended the deadline to claim property tax rebates. Montanans now have an extra day, until October 2, to submit their claims. This extension comes in response to the original deadline of October 1 falling on a Sunday, as stated in a press release issued by the department.

Recognizing that some taxpayers might have eleventh-hour questions or require additional guidance, the department has decided to keep the online portal open until 11:59 PM on Monday, October 2. The online portal for these claims can be accessed at getmyrebate.mt.gov. Not to leave out those who prefer traditional methods, the department will also accept paper claims, provided they are postmarked by the new extended deadline.

“Shifting the deadline to a business day ensures that our team is readily available to offer the assistance that taxpayers may need to successfully claim their rebates,” said Brendan Beatty, the Director of the Montana Department of Revenue.

The department’s efforts seem to have paid off so far, with around 180,000 claims already approved. These approvals amount to approximately $120 million in rebates, covering about 80% of the estimated potential. For those yet to claim, going through the department’s website is advised as the quickest way to get the rebate processed.

It’s worth noting that mailing in a paper claim could result in delays, especially in areas experiencing U.S. Postal Service staffing shortages, such as Bozeman. So, if you’re looking to expedite the process, online submission is the way to go.

The Montana Property Tax Rebate aims to offer significant financial relief to eligible homeowners, offering up to $675 back on property taxes for a primary residence. If you’re wondering whether you qualify for this windfall, all the criteria are listed on the rebate portal at getmyrebate.mt.gov, allowing you to easily check your eligibility.

So, if you haven’t already, seize this extended opportunity to claim your property tax rebate and put a little extra money back into your pocket!
