Expanded Waitlist for Home Rehab Grants in Milton
The Borough of Milton has recently been awarded a significant housing rehabilitation grant of $500,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). This grant aims to support eligible residents within the borough limits in making necessary home repairs. Interested residents are encouraged to apply promptly to secure a spot on the waiting list for these no-cost repairs.
Qualified residents have the potential to receive up to $65,000 each for home repairs. The borough will contribute up to $50,000 as a no-interest loan, which will be forgiven if the property remains unsold or transferred for at least five years following the completion of rehabilitation. Additionally, the borough will provide an extra $15,000 in funding dedicated to addressing lead-based paint abatement or mitigation, as required.
Eligible repairs encompass a range of areas, including structural enhancements, roofing, plumbing, electrical work, heating/furnace improvements, window replacement, radon and lead-based paint mitigation, as well as energy-related upgrades.
Mobility modifications for residents with special needs are also covered by this program. Homeowners must commit to maintaining residence in their homes for a five-year period from the date of signing to benefit from these no-cost services.
Joel Ruch, the housing rehabilitation manager of the Community Services Division at SEDA-Council of Governments (SEDA-COG), explained, “SEDA-COG manages the entire process for the homeowner. Not only does the homeowner receive necessary home repairs, but they also have the advantage of a hassle-free experience as we handle all the logistics from start to finish.”
To be eligible for this program, participants must meet certain criteria: they must live within the Borough of Milton, either own the home or have life rights to live in it, meet income qualifications based on household size, be up to date on all local taxes and municipal utility bills, provide proof of homeowner’s insurance, and, if located in a flood zone, provide proof of flood insurance. Furthermore, participants must commit to residing in their homes for an additional five years.
It’s important to note that additional requirements may apply. The annual gross income limits, based on family size, are as follows: 1. $43,250; 2. $49,400; 3. $55,600; 4. $61,750; 5. $66,700; 6. $71,650; 7. $76,600; 8. $81,550.
