Federal Assistance Application Deadline Approaching in Two Weeks for Broward County
LAKE MARY, Florida – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is reminding residents of Broward County that they have a mere two weeks left to apply for federal assistance if they suffered damage or losses due to the severe storms and flooding that hit the region in April. The final deadline for applications is June 27, 2023.
Assistance from FEMA could prove invaluable for those needing rental assistance or facing other disaster-related expenses. Homeowners whose properties sustained damage not covered by their insurance policy may also be eligible for help with essential home repairs.
Residents of Broward County – both homeowners and renters – are encouraged to reach out for aid. They can do so through several channels: by calling the FEMA hotline at 800-621-3362, visiting one of the established Disaster Recovery Centers, applying online at DisasterAssistance.gov, or by using the FEMA App.
Currently, there are two Disaster Recovery Centers open for affected residents. These are located at Hortt Park in Fort Lauderdale and Sadkin Community Center in Lauderhill. These centers are open from Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and are closed on Sundays. Additionally, a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center will be operational until June 16 at Samuel Delevoe Memorial Park in Fort Lauderdale.
It’s important to note that FEMA is not able to duplicate insurance payments. However, it may be able to help cover disaster expenses that are not covered by insurance.
For those seeking disaster loans, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has set a deadline of June 26 for applications. Applicants can submit their applications online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA’s secure website at DisasterLoanAssistance.sba.gov/ela/s/. For more information, application forms, or help with the application process, individuals can contact the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or by emailing [email protected]. The final date for submitting SBA economic injury applications is January 29, 2024.
