Grant Funding for Home Repairs in Grand Forks County Following Last Year’s Snowstorms
BISMARCK — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development North Dakota State Director, Erin Oban, has announced the availability of grants to assist residents in repairing their homes that were negatively affected by the severe storms and snowstorms of 2022, according to a recent press release.
Eligibility for this funding extends to inhabitants of 41 counties within the state, inclusive of Grand Forks County. Importantly, the homes that qualify for these grants must be located within areas officially declared as disaster zones by the President.
Erin Oban, recognizing the value of a home, stated in a press release, “A home is one of the largest and most significant investments an individual or family will ever make. Affordable, accessible housing not only forms the backbone of communities but also provides safety, security, and dignity to each of us fortunate enough to own or rent a place we can call home.”
These grants form part of the supplemental disaster funding under the Rural Disaster Home Repair Grant Program. Through this initiative, individuals can apply to receive up to $40,675 in grant funds directly from the USDA, with the aim of facilitating necessary home repairs.
This funding will remain accessible until it has been completely expended. It can be employed not only for home repairs but also for preparing a site for a manufactured home or relocating a manufactured home.
To be eligible for this grant, apart from the home being located within a presidentially declared disaster zone, the applicants must also meet certain criteria. These include having household incomes that do not surpass the low-income limits according to their household size and county, and the home must be situated in an eligible rural area.
The counties that qualify for this funding encompass Barnes, Kidder, Renville, Billings, LaMoure, Richland, Bottineau, Logan, Rolette, Burke, McHenry, Sargent, Cavalier, McIntosh, Steele, Dickey, McKenzie, Stutsman, Divide, McLean, Towner Dunn, Mercer, Traill, Foster, Mountrail, Walsh, Golden Valley, Nelson, Ward, Grand Forks, Oliver Wells, Grant, Pembina, Williams, Griggs, and Ramsey.
