Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Indiana Seeks Grant Applicants for Home Repairs
Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Indiana offers assistance to low-income homeowners in applying for grants to make repairs to their homes. Eligible homeowners may receive up to $7,500.00 in grant funds from the Neighborhood Impact Program (NIP) and up to $10,000.00 from the Accessibility Modification Program (AMP) for eligible repairs and improved accessibility.
Marianne Stanley, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Indiana, said applicants should begin the process immediately by calling her at 260-925-2508 or email [email protected]. The grant application is not online. Stanley can help residents collect grant application documents via email and fax, minimizing in-person contact if necessary and following COVID-19 guidelines. The start date for repair projects is April 18.

To be eligible for a Neighborhood Impact Program grant, annual household income must fall within these limits: 1 person, $41,050.00; 2 people, $46,900.00; 3 people, $52,800.00; 4 people, $58,650.00; 5 people, $63,350.00; 6 people, $68,000.00; 7 people, $72,700.00; and 8 people, $77,400.00. Basic documents required for the application are proof of ownership, property taxes, mortgage statement; homeowner insurance declaration page, award letter if receiving Social Security/SSDI/SSI, current bank statement less than 30 days old, Photo ID for everyone older than 18, social security numbers and birthdates for everyone in the household, and two bids from licensed and insured contractors within 30 days, and a credit report.
These funds are available to all Indiana residents, and they can be used to cover home repairs like roofing, water heaters, well or septic systems, HVAC, gutters and downspouts, windows, caulking, soffit and fascia, siding, weather stripping, attic, and wall insulation, know and tube replacements, and exterior doors. Homeowners that meet the Accessibility Modification Program requirements can receive up to $10,000.00 in funding to make eligible repairs to their homes to make them more accessible. Eligible repairs that can be covered by this program include ramps and zero steps entries, handrails, levered door handles, self-closing hinges, pocket doors or swing hinges, internal chair and wheelchair lifts, plumbing and electrical modifications necessary to relocate laundry facilities to the main level of the home, kitchen modification, widened doorways, installation of smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors, Universal Design flooring, bathroom modifications, and more.
