An enticing aspect of the program is its financial incentive. Homeowners can get back 20% of their project cost, up to a maximum of $8,000. That could be a significant chunk of a home renovation bill! But there are eligibility requirements. The homeowner applying for the grant must be living in the residence that will undergo the improvement. Moreover, there are income caps based on household size. For example, a single person should have a maximum income of $78,300, while a family of eight must have an income not exceeding $164,000. But don’t be deterred; Sutter assures that most households typically qualify for the program.

The impact of this initiative is palpable. Sutter estimates that approximately 90 homeowners avail themselves of this program annually, contributing positively to Crystal’s neighborhoods’ upkeep. “This grant program plays an essential role in maintaining the quality and longevity of our housing stock,” he added.

A Home Transformed: One Resident’s Experience – Among the many beneficiaries of this program is Joanne Segner, a long-time resident of Crystal. She lives in a home that’s a product of the 1960s and still had its original windows, which had become a frosty problem each winter. “Changing the siding was something I’ve been contemplating for years. It’s a substantial expense, one that gave me pause,” Segner revealed.

She had been saving for the project for a long time and finally decided to take the plunge, thanks to the Home Improvement Grant program. “I don’t usually splurge on new things, so committing to this renovation was nerve-wracking. But I’m investing this saved money back into my home, and I’m optimistic that the result will be outstanding!” she said with hope in her voice.
