Jamestown announces the commencement of Housing Repair Mini-Grant Program applications on June 19

Beginning Friday, June 16, the City of Jamestown, New York is opening its application process for the Housing Repair Mini-Grant program. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for homeowners in the city to receive financial assistance for various home improvement tasks.

Interested homeowners can submit their applications for this program from June 19 to June 30. It’s a first-come, first-served initiative, so early applications are encouraged.

Crystal Surdyk, the Director of Development, has expressed anticipation of receiving numerous applications within the stated period. She explained, “If we don’t expend with all of those that come in in that time period, we will reopen it and make sure that all funds get expended. So, it grants up to $2,500. And there are a lot of different things it will cover, including junk and debris removal.”

These grants are designed to cover up to 90% of the total project costs, providing significant relief for homeowners. Surdyk also mentioned the income limit for potential applicants, which is set at 125% of the area median income. This translates to an income cap of $96,125 for an individual applicant, with higher thresholds applicable for couples or families.

However, Surdyk clarified that the program will only be open to new applicants. Homeowners who have already received funds from the American Rescue Plan via the city are not eligible to apply for this round of grants.

The Housing Repair Mini-Grant program was initially funded with a sizable $500,000 from the American Rescue Plan monies in June 2022.

Starting June 16, application forms for the Housing Repair Mini-Grant program can be accessed and submitted online at the official Jamestown city website, www.jamestownny.gov. Alternatively, interested parties can also mail their applications to the Department of Development, 200 E Third Street, 4th Floor, Jamestown, New York 14701. This multi-channel approach makes it easier for homeowners to apply for the program, ensuring it reaches as many eligible citizens as possible.
