Renovation and Restoration Take Prominence in East Ardmore Revitalization's Vision

As East Ardmore Revitalization in Oklahoma approaches its first anniversary, the organization is gearing up for significant projects to make a lasting impact on the community. Founded on December 26th of the previous year, the organization recently hosted its inaugural loaded baked potato fundraiser at the HFV Wilson Community Center, marking a successful step toward its goals.

While currently engaged in the restoration of a senior citizen’s home on the northeast side of the city, East Ardmore Revitalization envisions a broader scope for its initiatives. Pastor and City Commissioner John Alfred Credle, Jr., emphasized the organization’s core mission—to bring restoration and revitalization to the most neglected part of Ardmore.

“Our philosophy is that if we can uplift the weakest side of Ardmore, we can make all of Ardmore better. So, our goal is to bring equity to Ardmore economically,” stated Pastor Credle.

The organization aims to empower residents and channel resources into the community, addressing essential needs such as accessible healthy food and banking facilities on the east side. Currently lacking a grocery store beyond the railroad tracks, East Ardmore Revitalization is determined to revive and reintroduce essential services to the area.

The organization’s ongoing pilot project focuses on restoring the residence of a disabled resident, aiming to prevent the home from being condemned. Plumbing, roofing, sheetrocking, and flooring are among the tasks undertaken to breathe new life into the property. Local foundations and individuals are providing funding for the project, demonstrating the community’s commitment to making positive changes.

Acknowledging City Manager Kevin Boatright’s Homeowner’s Assistance Program idea, Pastor Credle stressed the urgent need to address dilapidated homes, primarily owned by elderly individuals on the east side. The collaboration with Youth Force, led by Pastor David Daniel from the United Methodist Church, is set to commence in June, targeting specific homes identified through partnerships with the city’s Community Services department and Meals on Wheels.

In another exciting development, East Ardmore Revitalization looks forward to establishing a new home for itself. Plans are underway to relocate to the Main Rail Building at 300 E. Main by December 1, providing a central hub for the organization’s transformative efforts in the community.
