Restore Louisiana Announces Extended Homeowner Assistance Program Application to Oct. 31

The Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program, dedicated to assisting homeowners impacted by recent natural disasters, has granted an extension for application submission. Homeowners now have until Tuesday, Oct. 31 to turn in their applications. This extension primarily concerns approximately 6,500 homeowners who have successfully completed the preliminary survey but haven’t yet finalized their applications.

Federal recovery protocols stipulate that homeowners failing to submit their applications by the Oct. 31 deadline may encounter challenges in the reimbursement process if they don’t have a damage assessment done by the end of 2023. Specifically, homeowners will need to provide documentation such as receipts, invoices, and proof of remitted funds, confirming that all repairs were concluded before Dec. 31, 2023.

Pat Forbes, the Executive Director of the Louisiana Office of Community Development, commented on this extension, saying, “The state is eager to ensure homeowners have adequate time to complete their applications and potentially secure repair reimbursements. We urge those who received invites to submit applications, but haven’t done so, to seize this opportunity. Our primary objective is to distribute maximum recovery aid to Louisiana homeowners. Now’s the time to act.”

Application Methods: Homeowners have a trio of options to submit their applications:

  1. Online: By accessing their account at restore.la.gov.
  2. Phone: By reaching out to the program’s call center at 866.735.2001, operational between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.
  3. In-person: At one of the program’s mobile support venues spread across the state. Representatives at these centers will assist homeowners with application completion and document submission. Details on these locations and schedules can be found at restore.la.gov/events.

Additionally, the program offers various online tools and resources designed to guide homeowners smoothly through the application process. For a comprehensive list, visit restore.la.gov/resources.

About Restore Louisiana: Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and managed by the Louisiana Office of Community Development, the Restore Louisiana program was initiated in response to the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Laura, Delta, and Ida, as well as the Severe Storms of May 2021. The program focuses on home repairs, reconstruction, or providing reimbursements for completed repairs.

Since its February 2022 inception, the program has seen over 39,100 homeowners complete the qualifying survey, with over 23,700 invited to send in their applications. As of Oct. 9, grants totaling more than $380 million have been offered to 4,846 qualified homeowners.
