State’s Affordable Housing Fund Holds Promise for Clark County Developments
Clark County faces a pressing issue with the lack of affordable housing options, but there is hope on the horizon as recent statewide funding opportunities emerge.
The Washington State Department of Commerce has opened up applications for projects aimed at developing affordable housing throughout the state. The available funds are accessible to various entities, including local governments, nonprofits, tribal governments, and housing authorities. To be eligible for funding, the proposed plans must align with the state’s 2023-2025 Biennial Investment Strategy.
Recognizing the importance of stable housing in fostering self-sufficiency, Commerce Director Mike Fong expressed the significance of these historic investments in addressing the longstanding deficit in affordable and accessible housing. In a news release, he emphasized the crucial role these funds play in providing homes for those who need them the most.
The funding for these initiatives comes from various sources, including the Legislature’s 2023-2025 biennium budget, miscellaneous projects catering to individuals with disabilities, and the Apple and Homes Program.
A recent report by the National Low Income Housing Coalition sheds light on the severity of the affordable housing crisis in Clark County. The data reveals that there are only 22 affordable homes available for every 100 low-income households, underscoring the urgent need for action.
