“Families in all zip codes deserve safe, affordable, and high-quality housing and opportunities to succeed,” said Menendez in a statement. “As we continue the recovery process from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that we continue to provide the support New Jersey’s communities and families need to rebuild. This funding is an integral part of that effort.”

The funding comes from four different grants, the Community Development Block (CDBG), the HOME program, the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program.

The amount of money that the county and the municipalities will receive are:

  • Hudson County
    • CDBG: $2,085,891.00
    • HOME: $2,932,131.00
    • ESG: $186,467.00
  • Jersey City
    • CDBG: $5,333,792.00
    • HOME: $2,388,869.00
    • ESG: $496,319.00
    • HOPWA: $2,320,676.00
  • Bayonne
    • CDBG: $1,374,343.00
  • Union City
    • CDBG: $1,053,888.00
  • Hoboken
    • CDBG: $967,580.00
  • North Bergen Township
    • CDBG: $632,597.00

Booker (D-NJ) said, “Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, disadvantaged communities across New Jersey were struggling — a fact that has only been exacerbated by the health crisis. This federal funding is vital to ensuring that these communities can recover and provide residents safe, affordable places to live.”

The money will go to a variety of non-profits and government entities in the city, including community service organizations and public facility renovation projects. In the next weeks, the beneficiaries in Hoboken will be named.

“These Community Development Block Grants will help us uplift and support our non-profit community and those most in need,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla in a statement.
