Kansas Housing Launches Mortgage Relief Program

Kansas

Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) introduced the Kansas Homeowner Assistance Fund (KHAF) on April 18th, offering mortgage and utility assistance to COVID-19-affected Kansas households. The KHAF program is funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Governor Laura Kelly designated Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) to serve as the administrator of the majority of these funds through the KHAF program. The initiative will run until the state’s KHAF grant of $56.6 million is depleted.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, we’ve provided more than $190 million in assistance to keep Kansans stably housed and connected to vital services,” said Ryan Vincent, Executive Director of Kansas Housing. “We’re so pleased to extend that support to homeowners with KHAF. We know that the economic impact of the pandemic is far from over, and these dollars will be vital in ensuring Kansans can remain in their homes.”

The Kansas Homeowner Assistance Fund program provides financial assistance to eligible Kansans who have had difficulty paying their mortgages, property taxes, homeowner association fees, utilities, or internet/broadband payments due to financial hardships during the COVID pandemic. These hardships may include a reduction in income, loss of employment, or significant COVID-related expenses (medical bills, personal protective equipment, child care costs, equipment or internet costs to enable online work/schooling, etc.). If the application is approved, the KHAF funds are sent and applied directly to homeowners’ accounts, helping homeowners receive aid as quickly as possible.

To be eligible applicants must own their home in Kansas, provide valid proof of identification, be at risk of losing their home without assistance, and have a household income at or below 150 percent of the area’s median income. The property must be a single-family home, one-to-four unit dwelling, or mobile home. For more information, as well as applying online, visit their official site.
