Oklahoma Housing Financial Agency Provides Property Tax Help for Residents Impacted by COVID
Homeowners in Oklahoma that are unable to pay their property taxes as a result of the Covid-19 crisis can apply for assistance. During a recent Budget Board meeting, Larry Stein, Oklahoma County Assessor, reminded people of the Oklahoma Homeowner Assistance Fund. This program was launched on January 10 with funds from the American Rescue plan.
Funds from the Oklahoma Homeowner Assistance Fund program up to $20,000.00 can be used to cover delinquent mortgage principal and interest, property taxes, homeowner and condominium association fees, insurances, and payments to government or nonprofit groups for down purchase assistance that are past due.
“Homeowners impacted by COVID-19 are often finding it difficult to keep up with mortgage payments,” said Valenthia Doolin, director of the HAF program in Oklahoma. “We want to make sure our neighbors have the resources to recover and restore homeownership stability.”
To be eligible, both applicants and their properties must meet certain requirements. Homeowners must apply for their primary residence located within the State of Oklahoma. They must have experienced a COVID-19-related financial hardship after January 21, 2020. Their income must be at or below 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI), and 150% if they are socially disadvantaged. A single-family home, condominium unit, duplex, one-to-four-unit residence, and manufactured home permanently fastened are all eligible properties for which they can apply.
