“This is a new fund that can hopefully help some families in this area,” Clarion County Tax Claim Bureau director Megan Kerr told the Clarion County Board of Commissioners on June 14. “Basically, this comes into play if you’ve experienced a decrease in income or an increase in expenses as a result of COVID. If someone is really delinquent this program can totally help. But it’s crucial that they apply now.”

The Pennsylvania Homeowner Assistance Fund program’s dashboard currently shows that over $12 million have been disbursed so far and 1,482 families have received assistance.

The program will provide financial assistance to homeowners with a qualified mortgage and housing-related obligations in order to prevent delinquency, default, foreclosure, or displacement. Under the PAHAF, any homeowner may receive up to $30,000.00 in aid or 24 months of support.

Pennsylvania homeowners who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments after January 21, 2020, because of the Covid-19 problem are eligible for this assistance (including a hardship that began before January 21, 2020, and continued after that date). The income also plays a major role when qualifying and it cannot surpass 150% of the Area’s Median Income. The applicants must be a homeowner that owns and occupies the property as their primary residence, and it must be located in the State of Pennsylvania.
