Possible $1,500 Stimulus Checks from Selected States: A Recent Update

Stimulus Checks Update

Several states across the US are set to distribute payments to qualifying residents either immediately or in the upcoming weeks, with potential individual payouts as high as $1,500. These payments will take various forms, with some being classified as tax rebates, while others are linked to particular programs. The precise amount one can expect to receive will be contingent on factors such as the recipient’s residential state, marital status, and annual income.

Georgia’s Surplus Tax Refund

For Georgia residents, a surplus tax refund is scheduled for distribution this month. As stated by the Georgia Department of Revenue, eligible single taxpayers can expect $250, head of household taxpayers will receive $375, and married couples filing jointly are due $500.

To qualify for this refund, recipients must have filed individual income tax returns for the 2021 and 2022 tax years by the April 18 deadline. They should also have had a tax liability for the 2021 tax year, and be either a Georgia resident, part-year resident, or nonresident. Once these requirements are met, taxpayers should anticipate receiving their refund within a span of six to eight weeks from the filing deadline.

Maine’s Emergency Winter Energy Relief Plan

Maine initiated the disbursement of payments from its Emergency Winter Energy Relief Plan in January. The payment amount is set at $450 for individual recipients, while married joint filers for the 2021 Maine individual income tax return will receive $900.

All payments were scheduled to be sent out by March 31. If expected recipients haven’t yet received their payment, they can send an inquiry to relief.payment@maine.gov. Alternatively, they can monitor the status of their payment here.

New Jersey’s Affordable Communities Program

In New Jersey, the majority of payments from its Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters program have already been distributed. Homeowners earning $150,000 or less per annum will receive $1,500, while those with an annual income ranging from $150,001 to $250,000 will get $1,000. Renters, on the other hand, can expect a payment of $450.

As of March 2023, over 1.7 million New Jersey residents, encompassing 1.25 million homeowners and more than 514,000 renters, have applied for the program. Most of these payments were sent out prior to May 3, as stated by Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ).

New Mexico’s Tax Rebate

New Mexico residents will soon be eligible for a tax refund in mid-June. According to New Mexico Taxation & Revenue, single filers can expect $500, while joint filers will receive $1,000.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) stated, “Prices for basic necessities continue to be high across the nation. Our state today is in a fantastic financial position, and it’s important to me that New Mexico’s families are sharing in that success.”

To qualify for this rebate, residents of New Mexico must have filed a 2021 personal income tax return by May 31, 2024.
