Chicopee Electric Light (CEL) offers rebates to residential customers who install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Customers may receive a rebate of $2.50 per watt for a maximum of $5,000 per installation, limited to the first 15,000 watts per year. Customers must have an automatic transfer switch that disconnects from the grid if power is lost.

A renewable energy credit is created for each kWh of electricity produced and is sold separate from the electricity. CEL has the option of buying these from the customer at a rate of 3 cents per kilowatt hour.
