Clark County, Nevada has established guides for obtaining building permits for wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for both residential and commercial purposes. The guides outline applicable codes for both types of systems, including building codes, electrical codes, and development codes. In addition, the guides provide checklists for the minimum submittal requirements for permits.

Zoning approval is required for all projects prior to permit application submittal, and solar PV projects should be submitted as an electrical permit application. Wind systems require both planning and zoning approval before permit applications are turned in. Residential wind projects must submit residential building and residential electrical permit applications, and commercial wind projects must submit commercial electrical sub permit applications. 

Solar permit applications must include minimum electric design information to confirm that the systems is in compliance with the National Electric Code. Single-family residential installations can use an electrical sub-permit application, and all commercial installations require both an electric sub-permit application and a plan signed by a Nevada-licensed electrical contractor or engineer. For both wind and solar systems of more than 600 volts AC or DC, or with more than 800 amperes of production capability, electrical designs must be prepared by a Nevada-licensed electrical engineer.
