Note: Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing a total of $300 million to U.S. states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia to establish rebate programs for new energy-efficient appliances that replace existing appliances in homes. Each state and territory has designed its own program. Rebates will be available until the state program’s funding is exhausted. Be sure to confirm that rebate funds are still available in your state before making purchasing decisions.
New Jersey is offering rebates to state residents that purchase Energy Star qualified refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes washers to replace an existing residential appliance. A standard rebate is available for all qualifying clothes washers, while super-efficient refrigerators and dishwashers are eligible for slightly higher rebates compared to those that just meet the minimum Energy Star requirements. Separately, super-efficient clothes washers (i.e., those with a Modified Energy Factor of 2.2 or higher) are eligible for a rebate of $50 per appliance through the regular New Jersey Energy Star Products Rebate Program.
In some cases retailers of qualifying appliances may offer the rebates at the register when the customer purchases the appliance. In this case, the customer does not need to submit a rebate application. It is important to note that this program is only available for purchases made from July 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011 or whenever funds are exhausted. Purchases made prior to the opening of the program are not eligible for rebates. Please see the program website for additional details, including lists of qualifying appliances.
