Note: Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing a total of $300 million to U.S. states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia to establish rebate programs for new energy-efficient appliances that replace existing appliances in homes. Each state and territory has designed its own program. Rebates will be available until the state program’s funding is exhausted. Be sure to confirm that rebate funds are still available in your state before making purchasing decisions.

The State of Pennsylvania began offering rebates to state homeowners for the purchase and installation of Energy Star qualified non-electric furnaces, boilers, and water heating equipment on April 21, 2010. As of September 7, 2010 available funding for rebate reservations is fully allocated, but the program is still accepting applications for a waiting list. Waiting list reservations are not guaranteed funding but applicants may receive rebates if funding becomes available. For purchases made on or after August 2, 2010 rebates range from $250 – $1,000 per eligible appliance and are limited to one per category (furnace, boiler, or water heater) per address. Highly efficient equipment is in some cases eligible for a higher rebate than lower efficiency equipment of the same type. Pre-approval is not required in order to claim a rebate, but participants are encouraged to make incentive reservations prior to making any purchase in order to make sure that funding is available. Reservations may be made on-line or over the phone. Only single-family home residents qualify for a rebate; installations made in multi-family residential buildings and new construction do not qualify. Consumers may not combine rebates for the same equipment from this statewide program with incentives offered by utility programs.
