Union Rural Electric provides all members with an electric meter for billing purposes. These meters are electronic and monitor kilowatt hours (kWh) and demand energy (kW). This information is transmitted to URE via the power lines and used in the monthly billing to its members. URE also manually checks some of its meter reading and equipment to ensure that the equipment is functioning properly on a regular basis. In the event that there is a need for specific information on electric usage beyond the monthly energy readings URE can provide a more sophisticated metering package at the members expense. Concerns with power quality may also be tracked through special request of URE’s technical services staff. This will require the installation of special voltage recorders at the transformer or inside the facility. URE also offers net metering for businesses with distributed generation capabilities less than 25 kilowatts.
