Tax Rebates Available to Senior Citizens and People with Disabilities

Tax rebates

Senior citizens and people with disabilities living in the State of Pennsylvania have the chance to apply for tax rebates until 31st December 2022, funded by the government. They can use these rebates for rent and property taxes. These rebates can be up to $975.00 and they are calculated by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. The standard amount of the rebate is $650.00. The amount you will receive is based on your annual income and property taxes or rent paid each year. This is why you must reapply every year.

“So far this year, more than 41,000 Pennsylvanians have used myPATH to file their rebate applications. This shows us that many of our customers are finding this online tool to be an easy way to make sure their applications are filed seamlessly and processed as quickly as possible,” Revenue Secretary Dan Hassell said in a press release two weeks ago. “We’re hopeful that other eligible claimants will take advantage of myPATH in the coming months now that the program deadline has been extended through the remainder of the year.”

There are specific requirements that must be met in order to be eligible. The applicant must be a resident of Pennsylvania, and be 65 and older or a widow/ widower 50 and older. If you are a person with a disability then you should be 18 and older. Regarding the household income, it should not surpass $35,000.00 annually for homeowners and $15,000.00 for renters. Half of a claimant’s Social Security income is excludable. Additionally, recipients of federal Civil Service Retirement System benefits may deduct 50% of the average annual Social Security benefit amount from their total income for eligibility purposes. Veterans receiving state or federal veterans’ disability benefits or federal veterans’ compensation may deduct 100% of those payments.
