Tehama County Grants Provide Financial Aid to Eligible Homeowners for Late Property Taxes

Tehama County Assistance

Tehama County Treasurer/Tax Collector Parker Hunt has announced that the California Mortgage Relief Program has increased the limit for assistance with delinquent property taxes from $20,000 to a maximum of $80,000 per household. With property tax deadlines approaching, Hunt encourages homeowners to take advantage of this program and review their eligibility, especially those who may have considered applying previously but did not.

Homeowners who have previously applied for property tax assistance have been informed that they may qualify for additional funding. To receive further aid for property tax payments, homeowners must continue to meet all other program requirements at the time of re-application.

In February, the program expanded its eligibility criteria, allowing previously awarded homeowners who are still eligible to return for additional funds. This includes grants to reduce or eliminate partial claims or loan deferrals received during or after January 2020. The delinquency date for past due mortgage and property tax payments has been reset to March 1, 2023. Furthermore, assistance has been extended to homeowners with properties that have up to four units.
