Wisconsin Awarded More Than $150 Million in Housing and Community Development Grants

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has just awarded the State of Wisconsin over $58 million in community development block grants, as well as an additional $48 million in other grants. Wisconsin tribes also received 11 Indian Housing Block Grants totaling $25 million and public housing authorities received nearly $30 million in capital fund grants.

These Community Planning and Development Formula grants include community development block grants, HOME investment partnership grants, emergency solutions grants, housing opportunities for persons with HIV/AIDS, and housing trust fund grants.

Community Development Block Grants – $58,438,232.00 – awarded to city and county agencies to revitalize neighborhoods, help small businesses, improve public facilities and provide support to community centers. 

HOME Investment Partnerships – $26,982,266.00 – assist in the construction and rehabilitation of housing for low-income renters and homeowners. 

Emergency Solutions Grants – $5,414,179.00 – used to fund emergency shelters, prevent homelessness and help homeless people. 

Housing Opportunities for Persons with HIV/AIDS – $2,259,887.00 – housing low-income people with HIV/AIDS.

Housing Trust Fund – $12,144,277.00 – provides housing for very-to-extremely low-income households.

Indian Housing Block Grants (IHBG) are used to help finance affordable housing projects on Indian reservations and tribal areas. Tribes that received the grants include the following:

  • Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa: $1,735,232.00;
  • Forest County Potawatomi Community: $438,740.00;
  • Ho-Chunk Nation: $4,784,253.00;
  • Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa: $3,537,243.00;
  • Lac Du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa: $2,174,200.00;
  • Menominee Indian Tribe: $3,134,283.00; 
  • Oneida Nation: $5,416,993.00;
  • Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa: $1,348,772.00;
  • Saint Croix Chippewa Indians: $1,694,270.00;
  • Sokaogon Chippewa Community: $1,026,767.00; and
  • Stockbridge-Munsee Community: $586,987.00.
