New Home Energy Storage Solution Revealed by SMA America
SMA America, a prominent division of the esteemed German company SMA Solar Technology AG, is making waves in the energy sector with its latest introduction to the U.S. market – the Home Energy Solution. This comprehensive system encompasses a hybrid inverter, energy meter, the optional Backup Secure functionality, an intuitive monitoring app, and more.
Central to this innovative energy storage solution is the Sunny Boy Smart Energy hybrid inverter. This versatile device serves as the core of the system, capable of integrating SMA’s Backup Secure feature to expertly manage a household’s energy distribution, channeling power to selected appliances precisely when required. Leveraging the power of technology, this inverter optimally controls energy flow, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
The battery inverter utilizes advanced multi-string technology, a distinctive feature that enables the connection of up to three high-voltage batteries, collectively producing a robust 2000 W of power. For comprehensive whole-home backup capabilities, the Automatic Backup Unit becomes a vital addition.
One of the standout features of the Home Energy Solution is its remarkable flexibility. Tailored to the homeowner’s specific needs and budget, the system allows for gradual installation. The DC-coupled battery integrated within the energy storage setup boasts an impressive 200% DC-to-AC oversizing capacity, enhancing its performance. Moreover, the system employs maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology, which harmonizes solar output with battery storage for optimal energy utilization.
Although the inverter itself does not presently include a battery, SMA has exciting plans on the horizon. The company has revealed that the inverter will be seamlessly compatible with BYD HVL and LG Energy Solutions batteries upon launch. Notably, SMA is actively working on introducing an SMA battery designed specifically for the U.S. market. This anticipated release is expected to become available in 2024, marking a significant stride in SMA’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions.
A notable aspect of the Home Energy Solution is its remarkable expandability. The system’s expansion requires a straightforward addition of solar sizing to the primary service panel. The installation process is further streamlined by the fact that the batteries do not impact AC breaker size, thereby reducing the need for electrical panel upgrades.
The Integrated System Manager, an integral inclusion, empowers users to effectively manage and monitor up to four inverters, energy meters, and batteries. The system also boasts SMA ShadeFix, enhancing energy production from photovoltaic (PV) systems even in challenging conditions or shaded environments.
The SMA 360° app serves as a valuable tool for solar installers, facilitating seamless planning, commissioning, monitoring, and servicing of systems. A QR code implemented during installation aids in simplifying the commissioning process, highlighting SMA’s dedication to user convenience.
The dimensions of the system measure 19.7 x 23.1 x 9.3 inches, with a total weight of 38.6 pounds. The system’s operational temperature range spans from a chilly -13°F to a sizzling +140°F, showcasing its adaptability across various environments. With its remarkable features, technological prowess, and user-focused design, SMA America’s Home Energy Solution is set to redefine the residential energy landscape.
