Description
Carbon Power & Light (CP&L) offers its customers a leasing program for PV systems, with an option to purchase the equipment. The utility provides the PV equipment, handles installation, and conducts routine maintenance of the systems. CP&L will cover all construction costs below the electric facilities allowance (EFA) cap of $2,500. The EFA is a standard line extension cost determined by the typical customer’s average bill over a set number of years. The leasing period can extend for either five years or ten years. If a customer wishes to discontinue the lease, he or she can either transfer the contract to another individual or purchase the system by paying off both the remaining balance of the line extension charges and the remainder of the monthly minimum amounts per the applicable rate tariff.
This program is available for Carbon Power & Light customers only. Currently, there are no participants in the leasing program. The majority of the leased systems in the past were used to operate livestock water installations. The utility has found that members can now purchase systems on the market at a lower cost than can be offered to them through the program.
