Homeowners Encouraged to Apply for Weatherization Program Funds before the Deadline
The North Georgia Community Action’s weatherization program has secured a multi-year grant from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority. This grant aims to enhance the energy efficiency of homes in the local community, benefiting residents and reducing energy consumption.
The funding originates from the US Department of Energy through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It will provide additional baseline funding to NGCA Inc., enabling them to extend the reach of their weatherization program to more homes across the North Georgia area.
The Weatherization Assistance program takes a comprehensive approach, treating the home as a whole energy-consuming system rather than focusing on individual components or equipment. Diagnostic tools are utilized to assess each home and determine the most effective and cost-efficient measures for implementation. Examples of measures that can be implemented through the program include air sealing and duct sealing, floor and attic insulation, HVAC system improvements, water conservation enhancements, energy-efficient lighting upgrades, and a comprehensive review of the health and safety of appliances operating on natural gas or propane.
Eligibility for the program is determined based on household income in comparison to the poverty guidelines established by the Department of Energy. If a client meets the eligibility criteria, a certified energy auditor will conduct a home energy audit to identify the most suitable and cost-effective measures for installation.
It is important to note that every weatherization project is fully funded by the Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Qualified applicants can benefit from these services at no cost.
