Description
The Sustainable Schools Program focuses on energy savings through behavioral and operational improvements, and may be used along with CenterPoint Energy’s SCORE and Load Management programs. It gives participating students project-based experience of energy conservation and engineering. The program can be used in science-based classes and/or extracurricular clubs. The teachers select the program elements they want to use. This program is offered by CenterPoint Energy at no cost to middle schools and high schools and provides:
• Hands-on, project-based experience: Participating teachers and students will be provided an energy audit tool kit and training on performing basic school energy audits, implementing a school-wide energy awareness campaign, conducting energy patrols, etc.
• Support and content: Participating teachers have access to online content and project resources, templates, tools, implementation guides, and ongoing support from CenterPoint Energy’s sustainability team.
• Operational assessments
• Incentives: Earn cash incentives for eligible operational improvements based on verified peak demand reduction and annual energy savings.
CUSTOMER ELIGIBILITY
Any public or private middle schools and high schools within the CenterPoint Energy electric service territory is eligible to apply for the Sustainable Schools Program.
