In March 2011, the City of Fort Worth adopted the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code with amendments as the City’s building energy code.

Fort Worth Energy Sustainability Program

Fort Worth developed a voluntary provision for projects desiring to be recognized for going above the requirements of the existing building codes. Participating residential and commercial projects are scored using a point system to achieve a rating of Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.

The options for earning points include, but are not limited to the following:

• achieving U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification;
• Green Building certification using the 2008 National Green Building Standard, ICC 700-2008 (for residential projects);
• compliance with the minimum requirements of the International Green Construction Code with additional stipulations (for commercial projects);
• compliance with ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009 (for commercial projects);
• using on-site renewable energy systems; and
• choosing among a menu of specific green building items.
