Description
In March 2011, the City of Fort Worth adopted the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code with amendments as the City’s building energy code.
Fort Worth Energy Sustainability Program
Fort Worth developed a voluntary provision for projects desiring to be recognized for going above the requirements of the existing building codes. Participating residential and commercial projects are scored using a point system to achieve a rating of Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.
The options for earning points include, but are not limited to the following:
- achieving U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification;
- Green Building certification using the 2008 National Green Building Standard, ICC 700-2008 (for residential projects);
- compliance with the minimum requirements of the International Green Construction Code with additional stipulations (for commercial projects);
- compliance with ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009 (for commercial projects);
- using on-site renewable energy systems; and
- choosing among a menu of specific green building items.
