Description
The Los Angeles City Council voted on March 2, 2001, to make one of the largest purchases of renewable green power in the nation, with 14% of the city government’s electricity purchases going to renewable power. This will amount to 50 million kWh of electricity annually. With previous commitments from LA World Airports and the city’s Water System, the total city government purchase will be more than 70 million kWh of new green energy. In 2004, the city council voted 12-2 in favor of increasing the percentage to 20% renewable energy. City government uses about 500 million kWh of electricity annually.
