Description
This “Premium Power Installation Grant” will provide up to twenty-five percent (25%) of the total capital costs, up to $2,000,000 per project, for the purchase and installation of fuel cells as part of systems to provide high quality power at various sites in Massachusetts. Funding is available only for capital cost, not technical services related to feasibility studies. Applications will continue to be accepted until all available funds have been allocated. A total of $5,000,000 is available through this grant. Private companies, not-for-profit organizations, and public agencies are eligible to apply for funding. Applications materials are available for downloading from the Web site shown above. Thus far, two organizations have received a total of nearly $2 million in grant funding.
This grant program is administered by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) and funded through the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust, the state’s public benefits fund (see DSIRE summary) created in 1997 as a result of the state’s electric utility industry restructuring legislation.
In addition to this fuel cell installation grant, the MTC also offers Fuel Cell Feasibility Grants. The application process for a 2nd round of funding began in April 2003. The MTC will provide up to $150,000 for each selected project on a cost-shared basis. A total of $750,000 is available for project funding under this solicitation. Seven organizations have received grants as part of 1st round and early 2nd round funding totalling over $8 million.
