Description
Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center (KPPC)—a state-supported, nonprofit resource center—offers Kentucky businesses and organizations a unique opportunity to take advantage of engineering services at very low or no cost. KPPC can help businesses with the following. (1) Pollution Prevention – P2/Source Reduction Assessments. Pollution Prevention (P2) means reducing or eliminating waste at the source by modifying production processes, promoting the use of non-toxic or less-toxic substances, implementing conservation techniques, and re-using materials rather than putting them into the waste stream. (2) Energy Efficiency – E2 Assessments. Energy Efficiency (E2) is the organized and systematic coordination and management of the procurement, conversion, distribution, and use of energy. The term describes actions taken to manage the use and cost of energy and to maximize energy efficiency. (3) LEAN Manufacturing – Kentucky E3. Lean manufacturing is a method of finding efficiencies and removing wasteful steps and materials that don’t add value to the end product. Lean manufacturing does not reduce quality; the goal of lean is to find better, more efficient ways of accomplishing the same tasks. Lean is a component of the Kentucky E3 initiative. (4) Compressed Air Efficiencies Workshops and onsite assessments of compressed air systems for costs, efficiency, leaks, and better control to improve productivity and profitability.
