Description
The Renewable Energy Equipment Grant Program was established by the 2007 Minnesota Legislature to fund the installation of renewable energy equipment for low income weatherization clients throughout Minnesota. Each grant has a maximum allowance of $4,700 and may be used for solar-air or bio-fuel heating systems.
Qualification
Recipients must meet the eligibility guidelines for the Energy Assistance program (EAP) in order to qualify for a grant. The grant is administered through the Community Action Program network and each eligible grant is coordinated with a weatherization project.
The combination of conservation and renewable energy equipment is intended to give optimum benefit to the household. Each project must show a simple 15 year or less payback based on the primary fuel it will be supplementing. Bio-fuel equipment must also meet the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Phase II emission standards.
