Description
The state of Florida offers a tax exemption for improvements to real property which include the installation and operation of a renewable energy source device. Renewable energy source devices are defined as equipment which, when installed in connection with a dwelling unit or other structure, collects, transmits, stores, or uses solar, wind or geothermal energy.
Eligible applicants are entitled to an exemption in the amount of the original cost of the device, including the installation cost, but excluding the cost of replacing previously existing property removed or improved in the course of such renewable energy system installation. Applicants must prove eligibility for an exemption to a qualified property appraiser.
Exemptions can be granted for a maximum of 10 years and are not granted on installations dating prior to January 1, 2009.
