Description
Homes in Utah constructed prior to 2000 may be eligible to participate in the Utah Home Performance Program. The program provides rebates of 50% or 80% of the cost (depending on income level) up $2,000 for energy efficiency improvements in homes. To participate in the program, the homeowner must first have a BPI Certified participating analyst test the home’s energy efficiency, which will result in a list of recommended improvements and an assessment of whether or not the home can achieve the 20% energy savings required to participate in the program. There is a $100 fee for this assessment which the homeowner must pay.
After the home has been assessed the homeowner can choose from a long list of energy efficiency improvements. There are, however, three mandatory improvements the homeowner must address: attic insulation, wall insulation and air sealing. After the work is completed, the homeowner must test conducted to ensure that they achieved the required 20% efficiency improvement. Homeowners can receive an additional $400 rebate for this test.
