Description
Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative (CHELCO), serving mainly Walton and Okaloosa counties in northwest Florida, offers net metering to residential and commercial customers with photovoltaic (PV) or wind energy systems up to 10 kilowatts (kW) in capacity. Net metering is accomplished using a single, bidirectional meter, or by a second meter purchased by the customer.
Net excess generation (NEG) is carried forward indefinitely to the customer’s following monthly bill as a kilowatt-hour (kWh) credit. Any unused credit will be granted to the utility in the event that the customer discontinues service under the net metering tariff. There is no limit on overall enrollment in CHELCO’s net metering program.
Customers are required to have a general liability insurance policy for personal and property damage in the amount of at least $100,000. (A standard homeowner’s policy typically meets this requirement.) PV systems and inverters must meet relevant UL and IEEE standards. Systems must be installed in compliance with relevant IEEE standards and the National Electric Code.
