With its expiration, the AEF, which is a public benefit fund, is no longer collecting money and thus unable to financially support ODOD programs. The Ohio Energy Resources Division, which resides within the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD), is offering grants on a first-come, first-served basis for the installation of solar thermal technologies for new construction and retrofits of multi-family housing and single-family developments of ten (10) units or more. In order to qualify, the project must be based in Ohio and served by one of the following investor-owned utilities: American Electric Power, Dayton Power & Light, Duke Energy, and FirstEnergy. Customers of these utilities pay into the Advanced Energy Fund, which provides funds for the incentive.
Incentive amounts vary depending on the development type, as summarized in the table below. Project equipment may not be ordered, purchased, or installed prior to the execution of a AEF grant agreement with the ODOD.

The Notice of Funding Available (NOFA) provides specific definitions and guidelines regarding what qualifies as affordable multifamily, affordable one-, two-, and three-family, as well as market rate multifamily and market rate one-, two-, and three-family housing units and should be consulted.
