Description

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) provides funding for energy efficiency improvements in small communities through the Village Energy Efficiency Program (VEEP). Communities with a population no greater than 8,000 residents are eligible to apply for grants to reduce energy use and costs in public buildings and infrastructure. Grant recipients may choose to identify energy needs and administer the grant themselves, or request the assistance of a State-provided energy professional to assess and implement conservation measures. Municipalities, cities, school districts, unincorporated villages, Native regional and village corporations, 501(c)3 tribal consortiums, regional housing authorities, and traditional councils are eligible to apply. 

The amount of funding a community may receive is dependent upon the size of the community. For the most recent solicitation in 2013, funding amounts based on population were:

• 100 or fewer people may receive up to $100,000
• 101 to 200 people may receive up to $150,000
• 201 to 500 people may receive up to $200,000
• 501 to 1,000 people may receive up to $300,000
• 1,000 or more people may receive up to $400,000.
