Note: This program was expanded on December 1, 2009 with $2.2 million in federal funds made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Within 10 days, the State Energy Office had received 332 applications, fully obligating all the ARRA funds. The State Energy Office is still accepting applications and will add them to a waiting list. Contact the State Energy Office for more information about future funding opportunities.

Originally supporting only photovoltaic (PV) projects with rebates up to $2,000, the program was expanded on December 1, 2009 with money from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The program now awards up to $10,000 or 50% of the installed cost for PV, wind and geothermal heat pump installations. For wind and PV systems, the amount awarded is $2,000 per kilowatt (kW) DC. For geothermal heat pumps, the amount awarded is $2,000 per ton. Incentives are limited to PV and wind systems of 20 kW DC or less, and geothermal heat pumps with a capacity of 5.5 tons or less. Installers are required to abide with the Davis Bacon (wage) requirement.

As of June 30, 2009 approximately 174 systems have been installed through the program. The program is administered by the State Energy Office a division of the Business and Industry Division of the Wyoming Business Council (WBC).

Both grid-connected and off-grid systems are eligible. Program requirements include an application a copy of the equipment invoice, before and after pictures, and quarterly reports on the system during the first of operation. Residents may apply for rebates for multiple systems, but only one for each technology type.
