Assistance Available for Homeowners Affected by 2020 Labor Day Wildfires

Overview

In response to the devastating 2020 Labor Day wildfires, ReOregon has launched the Homeowners Assistance and Reconstruction Program (HARP). This initiative aims to provide financial aid to homeowners in Clackamas, Douglas, Jackson, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, and Marion counties, facilitating the rebuilding of their homes.

Funding Allocation

A substantial sum of $422 million has been earmarked for wildfire repair efforts across the designated counties. This funding is intended to support various repair, replacement, and reconstruction projects.

Eligibility Process

The eligibility questionnaire for HARP opened on Monday, offering homeowners the opportunity to assess their eligibility for financial assistance. Jackson County Community Long-Term Recovery Group (JCC LTRG) is actively encouraging residents to engage with ReOregon’s local partners to streamline the application process.

Local Support

Jackson County, having experienced significant losses during the wildfires, has a strong focus within the program. Although there isn’t a specifically allocated amount for the county, efforts are being made to address the disproportionate impact.

Community Engagement

Caryn Wheeler Clay, Executive Director of JCC LTRG, reports that over 230 individuals have already completed the questionnaire, a substantial portion of them being Jackson County residents. ReOregon’s local partners in Jackson County, including Unete, Firebrand, and ACCESS, are providing bilingual and bicultural support to assist homeowners with the eligibility process.

Applicants will be promptly notified regarding their eligibility status for receiving funding, ensuring transparency and efficiency throughout the assistance program.
