Chesco Secures $2.7 Million in Housing Grants to Enhance Affordable Housing Initiatives
A significant boost has arrived for affordable housing initiatives in Chester County, as the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Authority has awarded the county $2.7 million in grants. State Senator Carolyn Comitta, a Chester County Democrat, made the announcement on Monday, emphasizing the importance of ensuring every resident has a safe and healthy place to call home.
The grants stem from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Fund, established by Act 105 of 2010, with the aim of supporting the creation, rehabilitation, and maintenance of affordable housing across the state. These funds are made available through the Realty Transfer Tax Fund and the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee Fund, specifically designated for companies involved in natural gas production.

- Home of the Sparrow, Exton: $50,000 has been allocated to support apartment subleases and re-entry case management for women transitioning from the criminal justice system.
- Friends Association for Care and Protection of Children, West Chester: A grant of $200,000 will aid the Eviction Prevention Court program, which focuses on preventing homelessness by providing necessary resources and support.
- Brandywine Valley Active Aging, Downingtown, and Coatesville: $200,000 will go toward a case management program that assists individuals who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or facing housing insecurity, including survivors of disasters.
- Housing Partnership of Chester County, Downingtown: A grant of $200,000 will support the Conservatorship Blighted Property Pilot Program, aimed at rehabilitating abandoned properties for sale to first-time homebuyers.
- DMPA Investment Group, Coatesville: $200,000 has been allocated for the construction of new container homes, offering innovative and affordable housing options.
- Habitat for Humanity of Chester County, Coatesville: A grant of $100,000 will support the purchase and renovation of two homes, providing affordable homeownership opportunities.
- Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, Coatesville: $100,000 will be used to enhance homelessness prevention services for survivors of domestic violence.
- Kennett Area Community Services, Kennett Square: $60,000 will support homelessness prevention efforts for individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity in Southern Chester County.
- Housing Partnership of Chester County, Downingtown: $50,000 has been allocated to fund housing counseling, financial literacy, and credit counseling programs.
- Housing Authority of Chester County, West Chester: A grant of $300,000 will support the Housing Locator Program, assisting lower-income residents in securing housing based on their specific needs.
