Disaster Assistance Application Window Closes in One Week!

Disaster Assistance Application Window Closes in One Week!

For those homeowners and renters in Jackson and Jasper counties grappling with the aftermath of the tornadoes and violent storms between June 14-19, there’s an important window of opportunity you won’t want to miss. You have exactly one week left to apply for the much-needed disaster assistance.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has sounded the alarm, reminding residents that the cutoff date for application is looming on Oct. 11.

Here’s How You Can Apply for Assistance:

  1. Reach Out via Phone: Dial the dedicated FEMA Helpline at (800)-621-3362. The service is available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time, every day of the week. Whether you speak English or any other language, there’s assistance available for everyone. And if you’re using a relay service, like video relay service (VRS) or captioned telephone, remember to provide FEMA with your respective service number.
  2. Apply Online: For a swift and convenient process, head straight to DisasterAssistance.gov.

However, it’s essential to note that while FEMA grants can cater to fundamental needs, they might not cover all losses. Plus, FEMA ensures that its grants do not duplicate the benefits you might receive from insurance.

But that’s not the only deadline approaching. Oct. 11 also marks the final day to forward applications for physical property damage to the U.S. Small Business Administration. For those who have suffered economic injuries due to the disaster, there’s a more extended window available, with a deadline set for May 13, 2024.
