Derrick Brooks, a resident in the Camellia Circle area, embodies the challenges many face. His home, dating back to the 1950s, bears the marks of time and wear, with visible signs of disrepair, including air conditioning units in windows that compromise the aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood.
“My shingles are blowing off. It’s leaking inside,” Brooks candidly acknowledges, emphasizing the urgency for assistance. Despite initiating repairs on his own, progress has been slow, a plight exacerbated by his fixed income and disability.
The city’s proactive response to such situations comes in the form of a newly acquired grant earmarked for roofing and HVAC repairs. For residents like Brooks, this initiative represents a potential lifeline. Brooks expresses hope, stating, “Maybe I can get something done here.”
Kim Mazo, Warner Robins’ Assistant Director of Community and Economic Development, sheds light on the program’s commitment by allocating approximately $50,000 to address these critical needs. Mazo underscores the scarcity of homeowner assistance currently available, making this program a valuable resource for those facing financial constraints.
“We just wanted to offer this because there’s not very much assistance for homeowners right now,” Mazo affirms, highlighting the urgency of the situation and the city’s commitment to filling the gap in support for homeowners.
Eligibility for this program extends to residents living west of Highway 247, north of Russell Parkway, and east of approximately Northside Drive. This geographic focus aims to target areas where the need for assistance is particularly pronounced.
