Federal Government Grants Benicia $275,000 for Housing
The Housing Authority in Benicia, a city in Solano County, California has been selected to be part of the beneficiary group for the Public Housing Capital Fund Formula Grant Awards. These grants were announced on Friday by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
As per the press release by Senators Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla, Benicia’s Housing Authority is set to obtain $275,577. It’s worth noting that Benicia is the only agency in Solano County to have been chosen for this grant.
The grant awards, which came from a total fund pool of over $95 million, were handed out to 42 different agencies, with the largest single grant, a hefty $24.81 million, being awarded to the Housing Authority of Los Angeles.
The press release clarified that the primary purpose of these grants is to stimulate the development, financing, and modernization of public housing projects, in addition to supporting the improvement of their management across California.
In the official statement, Senator Padilla referred to affordable housing as “essential infrastructure”, emphasizing that the federal investment from these grants will be critically important in supporting public housing projects throughout the state of California.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration across all government levels to tackle the housing crisis effectively. “Addressing our housing crisis requires collaboration across all levels of government to ensure every person has dignified and stable housing,” he stated. He also affirmed the commitment to continue working to ensure that California is equipped with the necessary resources to confront this housing crisis effectively.
