Harris County’s New Path to Homeownership: Welcome Own the HOU
TSAHC is thrilled to be part of the groundbreaking initiative called Own the HOU, which aims to empower people of color by equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to become successful homeowners. This initiative, launched in partnership with the Houston office of Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and generously funded by Wells Fargo’s Wealth Opportunities Restored through Homeownership (WORTH) initiative, aspires to make a significant impact. By the year 2025, Own the HOU is committed to assisting 5,000 new households in achieving their dreams of homeownership, while also providing support to existing homeowners to help them preserve their homes.
Own the HOU brings together a formidable team of ten nonprofit and government housing organizations, all dedicated to addressing the racial homeownership gap that exists in Harris County. TSAHC is proud to be a participant in this transformative initiative, as it aligns seamlessly with our mission of providing high-quality housing opportunities to underserved individuals and families throughout Texas.
This collaborative effort includes several esteemed organizations alongside TSAHC. Among them are Avenue, the City of Houston Housing & Community Development Department, Houston Community Land Trust, Connective, Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation, Harris County Community Services Department, Houston Habitat for Humanity, and the Tejano Center for Community Concerns. Together, this coalition is poised to make a profound impact on the landscape of homeownership in Harris County.
Own the HOU is more than just a program; it’s a powerful force for change that seeks to create a future where homeownership is accessible to all, regardless of their background or circumstances. As we move forward in this vital endeavor, we remain committed to fostering a sense of belonging and prosperity for every member of our community, one home at a time.
