San Bernardino Mountains Residents Granted More Time to Access FEMA Assistance.
San Bernardino Mountains in California residents who have been affected by the severe storms during the spring season have been granted an extension to apply for aid. The region witnessed over 100 inches of snowfall in late February, leading to numerous challenges, including residents being trapped in their homes and significant damage to homes and businesses due to collapsed roofs.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has stepped in to offer crucial support to affected individuals. FEMA’s assistance includes grants to cover temporary housing, essential home repairs, and other major expenses resulting from the disaster. These expenses may include replacing personal property, child care costs, moving expenses, storage fees, or transportation needs.
The deadline for San Bernardino Mountains residents to apply for FEMA assistance has been extended until July 20. This extension provides residents with additional time to access the vital aid they require. It is important to note that while the funds provided by FEMA are not intended to fully restore residents’ homes to their pre-disaster condition, they aim to help individuals secure safe and secure living situations. Additionally, FEMA’s Individuals and Households Assistance Program may offer financial support to replace damaged clothing, furniture, or other contents of homes that are not covered by insurance.
Residents can conveniently connect with federal assistance by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov, using the FEMA mobile app, or calling FEMA at 800-621-3362. Operators are available to assist individuals from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the week. It is important to mention that some residents may be directed to the Small Business Association (SBA) to apply for a loan before being considered for a FEMA grant. However, applicants are not obligated to accept the SBA loan.
As of June 2, more than $33.5 million in federal assistance has already been approved for residents across the 12 impacted counties, including the San Bernardino Mountains region. This assistance includes $14,877,340 approved for individuals and households, $13,068,169 for housing assistance, $1,809,170 approved for Other Needs Assistance, and $18,722,200 provided in SBA disaster loans for homeowners, renters, and businesses.
