Seize the Moment: Homeowner Assistance Applications Available Once More in Oregon!

SALEM, Ore.- The Oregon Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) is taking a proactive step to extend support to homeowners affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting at 10 a.m. on August 2, the HAF will begin accepting new applications, providing a fresh opportunity for those in need to access much-needed assistance.

For those interested in applying, vital information about eligibility requirements and the online application portal can be accessed through Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS). This initiative, driven by Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS), is designed to offer essential federal temporary COVID-19 emergency mortgage relief to homeowners who have faced hardships due to the pandemic’s adverse impact.

Ryan Vanden Brink, the assistant director of Homeowner Assistance Programs, emphasized the significance of this endeavor, urging, “Oregon families that were financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and are now at risk of foreclosure should review the HAF eligibility requirements and consider submitting an application.”

This program, much more than just a lifeline, aims to provide comprehensive support to homeowners with low to moderate incomes. According to an OHCS press release, the Homeowner Assistance Fund provides funding for past-due mortgages and other housing expenses, while also offering ongoing payment assistance. However, it’s essential to note that this support is limited to a specific number of qualified homeowners, making it crucial for eligible individuals to act promptly.

In May 2023, OHCS made the strategic decision to pause applications temporarily. The purpose of this pause was to assess current applications and accurately project the remaining amount of HAF funds available for homeowners. Now, with $72 million in funding, the program reopens its doors to welcome new applicants.

It’s vital for eligible homeowners to seize this opportunity and apply for assistance as soon as possible. As outlined in today’s press release, once the funding is exhausted, the program will close its doors. Therefore, it’s of utmost importance to act swiftly to secure the help you need.

Don’t let the chance slip away. If you’ve faced financial hardships due to the pandemic and are at risk of foreclosure, don’t hesitate to review the HAF eligibility requirements and submit an application through Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS).

Together, we can navigate through these challenging times and rebuild stronger communities. The Oregon Homeowner Assistance Fund is here to support you on your journey to financial stability and safeguard your home. Apply to start August 2 and take that first step towards a brighter and more secure future.
