Sacramento Homeowners Can Now Get Up to $15,000 for Emergency Repairs
The Sacramento City Council on Tuesday approved a pilot program that will provide up to $15,000 in grants to homeowners who need help making emergency repairs to their homes.
The program, called the Justice for Neighbors Emergency Home Repair Pilot Program, is open to homeowners who meet the following criteria:
- The home must be owner-occupied.
- The home must be a single-family home.
- The homeowner’s income must be at or below 80% of the area median income.
- The home must have substandard or dangerous code violations.
The program is funded by a combination of $304,000 from the Housing Trust Fund commitment of Measure U and $200,000 from the Justice for Neighbors Project. The total funding for the program is $504,000.

The program is set to last for four years or until all of its funding is depleted.
“This program is a great opportunity for homeowners who are struggling to make emergency repairs to their homes,” said Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra. “I’m proud that the City Council was able to approve this program and I encourage homeowners who need help to apply.”
In addition to the financial assistance, the program will also provide homeowners with technical assistance and referrals to other resources.
“We’re excited to be a part of this program and we look forward to helping homeowners make the necessary repairs to their homes,” said Leah Miller, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento. “This program will help to improve the safety and livability of homes in our community.”
